Key Responsibilities
As an Apprentice Mechanic, you will work on commercial transport trucks, trailers and automotive systems while helping diagnose and repair mechanical problems. Your responsibilities may include:
- Inspecting and testing mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions.
- Inspecting motors while they are operating.
- Adjusting, repairing or replacing parts and components of commercial transport truck systems.
- Adjusting, repairing or replacing automotive system components.
- Repairing or replacing truck-trailer system components.
- Repairing or replacing mechanical units and components.
- Testing automotive systems and components.
- Reviewing work orders before carrying out repairs.
- Discussing mechanical findings and repair requirements with the supervisor.
- Confirming with the supervisor whether a unit should be repaired or replaced.
- Road testing motor vehicles after repairs.
- Testing and adjusting repaired systems according to manufacturer specifications.
- Performing scheduled maintenance services.
- Testing and adjusting mechanical units to required specifications.
- Estimating parts and labour costs for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Advising customers about completed work and future repair requirements.
- Completing reports documenting vehicle problems and work performed.
- Following workplace safety procedures while working in a dusty, dirty, hot and noisy environment.

Requirements
The ideal candidate should have relevant mechanical training, practical experience and the ability to work with commercial vehicles and automotive systems.
Experience
- 1 year to less than 2 years of relevant experience.
- Previous experience working in automotive, truck or trailer repair.
- Experience diagnosing mechanical faults and malfunctions.
- Experience repairing and replacing mechanical components.
- Ability to inspect and test automotive and truck systems.
- Ability to perform scheduled vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to road test vehicles following repairs.
- Ability to work safely in dusty, dirty, hot and noisy environments.
Education and Certification
- Registered Apprenticeship certificate.
- Level one apprenticeship training.
- Automotive Service Technician Trade Certification.
- English language skills.
- Hindi, Urdu or Panjabi language skills are an asset.
