Since Viv’s 189* in 1984, several came tantalizingly close to the promised land, none closer than Saeed Anwar, who’s penchant for the spectacular proved to be his downfall when he attempted to loft Sachin Tendulkar, ironically, the person who snatched his record of the highest ODI individual at the time.               Top 8 Batsmen ODI Double Century Scorers of All Time

1. Sachin Tendulkar (200 – India)

Saeed Anwar’s 194 remained the highest individual score in ODI cricket for 13 long years, until the Little Master, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, steered a half volley from Langeveldt to point, running the single which gifted him another batting record. The elusive double ton has been breached at last, and fittingly, had been done so by the one who was most worthy. Top 8 Batsmen ODI Double Century Scorers of All Time

2. VerinderSehwag (219 – India)

Had a poll been carried out to guess who would be cricket’s first double centurion, Sehwag’s name would have appeared right at the top. Sehwag’s intentions were clear right from the start. He clipped his second ball away past midwicketand opened his maximums account through an upper-cut on his eighth ball. Making full use of the small boundaries at Indore, he raced to 200 of only 140 balls against the tired Windies attack. He eventually perished in the 46th over for 219, but the match had already become a formality by then. Top 8 Batsmen ODI Double Century Scorers of All Time

3. Rohit Sharma (209 – India)

The man present on the opposite end during Sehwag’s heroics was none other than Rohit Sharma, who became the third batsmen to reach the 200 mark, and boy did he do it in style. Rohit’s 209 of 158 balls included 16 sixes, which is still the joint record for most sixes in an innings. Little did we know that he would be reaching the landmark not once, but twice more. Top 8 Batsmen ODI Double Century Scorers of All Time

4. Rohit Sharma (264 – India)

Just 376 days later, Rohit Sharma played probably the greatest ODI innings of all time in Kolkata against Sri Lanka. Not only is his 264 the current record for the highest individual score in ODI’s of all time, but the manner in which he achieved it is something only Rohit could’ve accomplished. He scored his 100 of exactly 100 balls. The carnage that followed was devastating. His next 73 balls fetched him another 164 runs, establishing a record that is bound to stand the test of time for ages to come. Top 8 Batsmen ODI Double Century Scorers of All Time

5. Chris Gayle (215 – Wes Indies)

The first non-Indian to reach the landmark, Chris Gayle, didn’t came as a surprise to many. When Gayle smashed Sean Williams for a six over cow corner, he overtook Gary Kirsten’s record of 188* as the highest individual score at the ODI World Cup. Gayle ended up doing one better as he finished at 215, caught off the last ball of the innings as he attempted a 17th six which would’ve gifted him the record. Top 8 Batsmen ODI Double Century Scorers of All Time

6. Martin Guptill (237 – New Zealand)

Chris Gayle’s 215, the highest individual score at the ODI World Cup, was demolished less than a month later by Martin Guptill, ironically, against the West Indies itself. Guptill’s 237* is regarded by many as being even better than Sharma’s 267. On a pitch where only one other batsmen crossed 42, Guptill absolutely demolished the Windies attack in the quarter final of WC 2015, in which New Zealand eventually ended up as runners-up to the Aussies. Guptill carried his bat through the innings, scoring 35 boundaries along the way. Top 8 Batsmen ODI Double Century Scorers of All Time

7. Rohit Sharma (208 – India)

Again. In December 2017, Rohit Sharma, for the 3rd time, scored a double ton while no other batsmen has yet managed to cross the mark more than once. Facing an inexperienced Sri Lankan bowling attack, Sharma cruised to his century before switching gears the way only he could. In the space of seven overs, he went from 116 of 126 balls to 208* of 153 balls. A mammoth 92 runs of 27 balls, which included 4 sixes of 4 balls in the 43th over.           Top 8 Batsmen ODI Double Century Scorers of All Time

8. Fakhar Zaman (210 – Pakistan)

The most recent instance of a batsman breaching the 200 mark is that of Fakhar Zaman against a second-string Zimbabwean attack in July 2018. Fakhar played a chanceless innings of 210 of just 156 balls. During the course of the innings, Fakhar and his opening partner, Imam-ul-Haq, broke the record of the highest partnership in ODI cricket of all time, amassing 304 for the first wicket. Pakistan eventually reached 399-1, the highest score for the loss on one wicket or lesser in ODI cricket. Fakhar, scoring his first double century in only his 17th innings became the fastest cricketer to do so in terms of matches played.       Top 8 Batsmen ODI Double Century Scorers of All Time
